Both teams advanced with wins in Fridays opening round games, Kentucky played in state school Northern Kentucky University, KY won this game by 9 points which 79-70 in a game that was closer than anticipated. Wichita advanced with a win over the Dayton Flyers, Wichita won this game by 6 points, 64-58. Jackson, KY. The Finals of the 14th Region Boys Tournament, between the Perry County Central Commodores and the Knott County Central Patriots was a game that will be talked about for years to come. Regional Finals are an exciting time in the Bluegrass, the arenas are packed to capacity and excitement is absurd for all people involved. Perry County Central entered the Regional Tournament as the prohibitive favorite and are the winners of the 54th District Tournament. Hazard, KY- The opening round’s of the Girls 14th Regional Tournament took place @ Hazard’s High School Memorial Gym. Two games were played tonight to open region competition. The first game featured the Breathitt County Lady Cats from Jackson, KY (the winner of the 55th District Tournament) taking on the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars (Runner up of the 53rd district tournament) From Whitesburg, KY. Hazard, KY hosted the the 54th District Championship. The game was hosted by Perry County Central being held @ the John C. Combs Arena, on Perry Central’s campus. The game featured two of the better teams in the region; the defending 14th Region Champs the Buckhorn Wildcats and the prohibitive region favorite, the Perry County Central Commodores.
