Steve Miller took in all the action for BSN. The Kentucky Wildcats were represented by this years incoming freshman. Hazel Green Kentucky resident and Wolfe County Softball Coach BennyCampbell has been selected as a member of the Officiating Crew for the KHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament which was played in Rupp Arena on March 15-19. Campbell joined 15 other officials from across the state as they called the 100th edition of the Sweet 16 which is billed as the Greatest Show in Hoops. The 2017 Boys Sweet 16 First round action at Rupp Arena has come to an end with very little surprises. At the end of the first round, half of the 16 teams representing Regions across the state, have packed up and went home with dreams of a State Title dashed. Both Perry Central and Pikeville, Mountain teams, entered Rupp Arena with dreams of a State Championship. Both teams came out sluggish to start the game and the nervousness showed as both committed careless turnovers and missed easy shots. Midway through the first quarter the teams settled in and started to run their offenses a little smoother. Pikeville had a hard time getting shots off as PCC’s big men contested everything near the rim. Pikeville would hold a one point lead after the 1st quarter 9-8. Jackson, KY. The Finals of the 14th Region Boys Tournament, between the Perry County Central Commodores and the Knott County Central Patriots was a game that will be talked about for years to come. Regional Finals are an exciting time in the Bluegrass, the arenas are packed to capacity and excitement is absurd for all people involved. Perry County Central entered the Regional Tournament as the prohibitive favorite and are the winners of the 54th District Tournament. Tonight’s 14th Region High School Basketball action at Breathitt County High School consisted of two quality games. The first contest was the Letcher County Central Cougars taking on the Perry Central Commodores. This game was an amazing battle between two of the top teams in the 14th Region. Hazard, KY- The opening round’s of the Girls 14th Regional Tournament took place @ Hazard’s High School Memorial Gym. Two games were played tonight to open region competition. The first game featured the Breathitt County Lady Cats from Jackson, KY (the winner of the 55th District Tournament) taking on the Letcher County Central Lady Cougars (Runner up of the 53rd district tournament) From Whitesburg, KY.
