The Wildcats have started the season in the top AP top five in six straight seasons
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Despite losing 75.8 percent of its scoring production, 70.0 percent of its rebounding and seven players from last season’s roster, the Kentucky men’s basketball team is ranked No. 2 in the Associated Press Top 25 to begin the 2016-17 season.
Forgive me for being just a bit euphoric, but after Kentucky’s commanding 35-21 upset road victory over the Missouri Tigers this afternoon, the Wildcats are now officially in contention for the SEC eastern division crown. With an upcoming “sure-win” game with Austin Peay still on the schedule, bowl eligibility is a virtual certainty and the possibility of that long-awaited magical season is beginning to crystallize in the hearts and minds of BBN.Continue reading UK Football – Manic in Mizzou→
Starting off for UK and the 2016-2017 Season, Fox, Adebayo, Briscoe, Gabriel and Willis. UK starts of a little slow with an early 11-7 lead, led by Willis with 5 Gabriel with 4 and Fox chipping in with 2. Clarion showed press early but Fox beat it easily by outrunning the defense. With Fox handling the ball, teams will be hard pressed to put any pressure on UK. Continue reading UK hammers Clarion 108-51 in exhibition game→
Ok, it’s an exhibition game. Not much can be drawn from playing an over matched opponent in an organized scrimmage.
What this young group of Wildcats did get out of this game was an opportunity to line up and play someone other than them selves. They had a chance to play in front of over 20,000 fans, which helps get out the jitters before the real season begins. And they had the chance to learn without any pressure of losing the game. These are all positives. Continue reading Cats blast past Clarion 108-51→
Hold your horses. I’m no Jerry Tipton but I’m already a wee bit worried about this year’s version of the UK Basketball Wildcats. Before you go booking travel arrangements for The Final Four in Phoenix next April, just think back to Tubby’s Team Turmoil or—or even more recently, Cal’s NIT team. I’m not predicting any losses to Robert Morris with this bunch of Cats, but if recent history proves correct, it’ll take time for this team to morph into a championship caliber unit.Continue reading Hold Your Horses (Special by John Huang)→
More than five percent of current NBA players played college basketball at Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. – John Calipari has made the statement before that he would like to see every NBA team have at least one Wildcat on its roster and half of the NBA’s annual All-Star Game hailing from the University of Kentucky.
Bluegrass Sports Nation traveled to Johnson Central for a matchup of the #1 3A – Belfry at #1 4A Johnson Central. It didn’t take long for the fireworks to start as Johnson Central broke a run for 80 yards on the first play from scrimmage. This was followed up by a Belfry fumble recovery returned for a touchdown to tie the score at 7-7. The teams would go back and forth with Johnson Central making crucial errors that could have gave them the game momentum, but a fumble at the 1 yard line and an interception in the red zone late in the game doomed them. Belfry would capitalize with an 88 yard kick off return for a touchdown that would seal the fate of Johnson Central.
