Illinois Sports – Fighting Illini Basketball – Coleman-Lands Out With Stress Fracture

Illinois_Fighting_IlliniChampaign, Ill.­–Fighting Illini freshman guard Jalen Coleman-Lands (Indianapolis, Ind./La Lumiere School) has been sidelined with a stress fracture in his lower left leg. He will miss Illinois’ on-campus practices in preparation for its upcoming international tour to Belgium, Netherlands and France as well as game competition during the trip, scheduled for Aug. 9-19.

“After experiencing pain in his left leg, Jalen has been diagnosed with a stress fracture,” head coach John Groce said. “His health is our number one priority, so we are holding him out of all on-court activities indefinitely. We will re-evaluate his status heading into fall preseason training.”

UK Sports – UK Football Fan Day Set for Saturday, Aug. 8

Annual event to be held Saturday, Aug. 8 at 9 a.m. at Nutter Field House

UK Helmet LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky football Fan Day will be held Saturday, Aug. 8 at 9 a.m. inside Nutter Field House, followed by an open practice at approximately 10:45 a.m. at the Tim Couch Practice Fields at the Nutter Training Center. Admission and parking for the event are free of charge.

Kentucky student-athletes and coaches will sign autographs at the annual event from 910:15 a.m. New 2015 posters and schedule cards will also be available for pickup. Please note that UK Athletics is requesting autographed items be limited to one per fan.

At the conclusion of the autograph session, fans are invited to attend an open practice at the Tim Coach Practice Fields at the Nutter Training Center that will last from approximately 10:45 a.m.12:15 p.m.

Parking and admission for both portions of the event are free. Parking will be available in the Glenn Nissan Red Lot, Glenn Infiniti of Lexington Green Lot and Glenn Hyundai Blue Lot adjacent to The New CWS and Nutter Field House. Fans may either walk to the open practice or park near the Tim Couch Practice Fields, in the C8 lot behind the right-field fence of Cliff Hagan Stadium, or the three (3) designated Employee lots on Sports Center Drive, north of Cooper.


The event will be part of the opening week of fall camp for the 2015 Kentucky Wildcats, who are scheduled to arrive for camp on Aug. 6 and will participate in UK’s annual media day on Aug. 7. The Wildcats will be preparing for the 2015 season, which opens vs. UL Lafayette at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 at The New CWS, which will be hosting its first game after a $120 million renovation.

Paradise Jam EKURICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team will play in the 2018 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, Head Coach Dan McHale announced today.

The field of eight will play three games each.  The tentative dates for the event are Nov. 16, 17, 18 and 19, 2018.  Complete pairings will not be announced until the summer of 2018.

“We are thrilled to be participating in the 2018 Paradise Jam,” McHale said.  “I have been fortunate enough to participate in it twice and can’t wait to take the Colonels to the Virgin Islands.”

Accommodations, ground travel and ticket packages will be available for Colonel fans through Basketball Travelers, Inc.

The eight participants in last year’s field included Seton Hall, Illinois State, Old Dominion, Clemson, Gardner-Webb, LSU, Weber State and Nevada.  The 2015 field includes DePaul, Florida State, Hofstra, Indiana State, Norfolk State, Ohio, South Carolina and Tulsa.

“We will play against top-notch competition and our players and fans will be treated to an amazing experience,” said McHale.  “We look forward for the EKU faithful joining us and being a part of something special.”

The Colonels participated in the 2005 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.  EKU nearly beat Wisconsin in the first round before falling 95-89 in double overtime.  Eastern then knocked off Norfolk State 67-60 before closing out play with a 76-68 loss to Georgia.

Vanderburgh County – Last night at approximately 9:20, Trooper Lucas Zeien was operating stationary radar on the Lloyd Expressway near Martin Luther King Boulevard when he observed a Ford Taurus traveling west at a high rate of speed. Zeien utilized his radar and clocked the vehicle at 87 in a 50 mph zone.
