Barbara Sue Tackett Kiser / 1948 – 2010

MOREHEAD – Barbara Sue Tackett Kiser, age 61, of Maher Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.

Born November 18, 1948, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Dorothy Wilburn Tackett. 

Barbara is survived by her husband, Timothy Dee Kiser, whom she married August 15, 1986.  Also surviving are special friends, Marie and David Whitt, and Cricket and Tommy Stacy, all of Morehead, Kentucky.

Barbara was a certified nursing assistant for many years at the Life Care Center in Morehead.

Graveside services were conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with Elder Cephas Littleton officiating. 

Pallbearers were Wayne Kiser, Bob Kiser, Tommy Stacy, Brandon Stacy, Cody Stacy, and Ray White.

Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Bertha Newell Prewitt Wallace, age 67, of Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of Hillsboro, Kentucky, passed away

Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

She was born April 24, 1942, in Bourbon County, Kentucky, daughter of William Jennings Bryan Prewitt and Sophia Wilson Prewitt.   Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Emma Prewitt, and three brothers, Bryan Prewitt, Strauter Prewitt, and Tommy Prewitt.

Bertha is survived by her husband of 33 years, Clarence Wallace, whom she wed November 27, 1976; one stepson and his wife, Robert Scott and Joy Lynn Wallace of Lexington, Kentucky; one step grandson, Cameron Tret Wallace and his mother, Tammy Knowles, both of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

Other survivors include four brothers, Bertha’s twin, Roger Prewitt of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, Davis Prewitt of Vienna, Illinois, Albert Prewitt and Catesby Prewitt, both of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; six sisters, Bernice McCall of Winchester, Kentucky, Bettye Soper and Ann Wills, both of Paris, Kentucky, Eileen Culbertson of Lexington, Kentucky, Lillie Roberts of Chester, Virginia, and Jane Martin of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.

Bertha served as secretary to Fleming County Judge Executive Jewell D. Call for nine years and was an employee of the U.S. Shoe Corporation for twelve years.  She was very active in the Democratic Party, was a Kentucky Colonel, and for many years a fundraiser for the Hillsboro Fire Department and other organizations.  She was also the recipient of the Champ Clark Rooster Booster Award.

Bertha was a loyal member of the Owingsville First Church of God and Women of the Church of God for more than twenty years.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Owingsville First Church of God with the Rev. Lowell C. Rice and the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Morehead, Kentucky. 

Visitation is after1 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro and after 1 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2010, at the Owingsville First Church of God. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Owingsville First Church of God Scholarship Fund, 320 Slate Avenue, Owingsville, KY 40360.

Teresa Lynn Smith, 43, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, in Cynthiana.  She was a member of the Full Gospel Church

of Jackson.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Ernest Smith Jr. and grandparents, Earnest & Aileen Smith and Floyd & Mary Ann Haddix.  She is survived by son, Daniel Stephen Haddix of Richmond;  parents, Forest and Bonnie Smith of Wolverine; brothers, Eugene(Darlene) Smith of Cynthiana, Doug Smith of Columbus, OH and Byron(Becky) Smith of Jackson; four nephews, Joshua Smith, Tyler Smith, Zach Smith of Cynthiana, Trever Smith of Jackson;  two nieces, Alexie Smith of Columbus, OH, Jaci Smith of Jackson.  Funeral services Thursday, Jan. 14, 1:00PM at Breathitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. , 63, of Fairborn, OH passed away Mon. Jan. 11, 2010. He ws born Nov. 23, 1946 in Breathitt Co., KY and was the son of the late Letcher and Ollie Turner.  He was employed with General Motors in assembly, retiring in 1999 after 33 years of service.  He attended Fairborn First Church of God Tabernacle and was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Germantown Lodge.  He was preceded in death by one sister:  Lizzie Jackson.  His father and mother in law:  Robin and Jane Herald; a brother-in-law: Arnold White.  He is survived by his wife of 41 years; Polly Herald Turner of Fairborn;  Two sons: Steve (Robin) Turner of Fairborn; Shane (Bianca) Turner of Beavercreek, OH; one grandson; Samuel Kash Turner:  Six sisters:  Nancy (Ashford) Turner of Enon, OH; Sophia (Chick) King; Julia (Johnny) Keene; Elaine (Billy) Deaton of Sebastians Branch, KY; Elloweese (Bob) Shouse of Campton, KY; Wilma (Scott) Deyo of Winchester, KY; Four Brothers: Letcher (Ima) Turner of Fairborn, OH; Larry (Peggy) Turner and John C. Mabel P. (Minix) Howard, former resident of Breathitt County and resident of Mason, Michigan for the past 50 years, passed away Friday, January 8, at the Whitehills Health Care Center in Lansing, Michigan.  She was born Dec. 25, 1920 at Quicksand to the late Ad and Addie (Robinson) Minix. She was the widow of the late Albert C. Howard. She is survived by her daughter, Linda and husband, Gerald Baldwin of Holt, Michigan;  sister, Lillie Minix of Chelsea, Michigan;  two grandchildren, Sandy Baldwin of Mason, Michigan and Chris Baldwin of Holt, Michigan;  one great grandson, Brandon Baldwin of Mason, Michigan;  several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services Friday, Jan. 15, 1PM at the Breathitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Emmitt Campbell officiating.  Visitation will begin Friday, 11AM.  Breathitt Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, family request donations be made to Hospice Advantage, 801 S. Saturday, January 9, 2010, at his residence.

Ivan was born June 29, 1949, in Rowan County, Kentucky, son of the late Jason and Edith Matthews Trent.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Glennis Trent; one brother, Ernest Trent; and four sisters, Nellie DeHart, Clona Mikelson, Reba Jones, and Hazel Brown. 

Ivan  is survived by one son, Mitchell Trent; three brothers, Vernon, Verdie, and Vercil Trent, all of Morehead, Kentucky; three sisters, Christine Parson of Elliott County, Kentucky, Zona Black of Morehead, Kentucky, and Jewell Jarrells of Michigan; and three grandchildren.  

Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, at the Trent Cemetery on Trent Ridge with Rev. Cledith DeHart officiating. 

Visitation for Ivan Trent is from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Ruth Botner Hamilton (Granny Ruth), 87 of Booneville, died January 3, 2010, at Marcum Wallace Memorial Hospital, in Irvine, Kentucky, due to a lengthy illness. Ruth was born October 20, 1922, in Owsley County, Kentucky to James and Edna Price Botner. She was married to William Jr. Hamilton on December 23, 1939, and was a member of the Rock Springs Primitive Baptist Church since 1963. She was a retired store clerk with the Rose Brothers Department Store in Beattyville, Kentucky with thirty-five years of service. Her hobbies included working in her flower beds, growing a huge garden and canning, but her passion was cooking and entertaining her family and friends. Survivors include, Maria Elena (Dick) Edwards of Booneville, and Donald Ray (Sandy) Hamilton of Springboro, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Mark Edwards, David Edwards, Anita Brandner, Michelle Nickel, Angela Parks, Alicia Manning, Mike Hamilton, Jennifer Call, and Dustin Hamilton; twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Jr. Hamilton and a son, Wendell Hamilton, four brothers, Virgil Botner, Clayton Botner, Edwin Botner, and Charles Botner, and one sister Ruby Roberts. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 8, 2010, at the Booneville Funeral Home with burial to follow in Hamilton Family Cemetery, Booneville, Kentucky, with Elder Mickey Wilson officiating. Pallbearers were: Mark Edwards, David Edwards, Dustin Hamilton, Mike Hamilton, Eddie Botner, Joe Manning, and Andy Call.

77, of Jackson, KY went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday, Jan. 06, 2010 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, KY.  She was born May 05, 1937 in Breathitt Co. and was the daughter of the late Alex and Joanna Haddix McIntosh.  She was preceded in death by her son: Freddie Thomas:  Three sisters: Lois Fletcher; Dorothy Bolden, and Carmildred McIntosh; four brothers:  G.B,  Robert, Alex, Jr. and Earl McIntosh.  She is survived by one daughter:  Rita Mae Johnson of Clay City, KY.  One son: James Edward Thomas;  Three sisters:  Louise Oaks of Beattyville, Laura Oney of OH and Edna McIntosh of TN. One Brother: George McIntosh of MI.  4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Host of nieces and nephews; Funeral was held on Sun. Jan. 10, 2010 at 1:00PM at Deaton Funeral Home chapel with Rev. He was born May 04, 1955 in Dayton, OH and was the son of the late Nathan Combs.  He also was preceded in death by sister: Linda Kay Combs and step son Christopher Hudson.  He is survived by wife: Doris Hudson Combs of Hardshell.  His mother: Cynthia Marshall Combs of West Alexandria, OH: Four daughters:  Jenny (John) Summers OH; Phoebe (Vic) Hudson of Hardshell; Natasha Combs; Jessica Allen of OH;

, 45, Chavies passed away Monday, Jan. 4 at his residence.  He is survived by father, Codell Combs of Dice;  two sisters, Greta Stacy and Geneva Combs of Dice;  one brother, Grover Wayne Napier of Rowdy.  Funeral services Friday, 11AM, at the Breathitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. MT. STERLING – Charles Dexter Howard, age 79, of Fox Road, Jeffersonville, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 4, 2010, at his residence. 

Born December 4, 1930, in Lee County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Alex and Florence Combs Howard.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Vice. 

Dexter is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean Trimble Howard; a daughter, Kim Sallie and husband J.R.; a son, Rick Howard and wife Joy; and two grandsons, Ryan Sallie and Noah Sallie, all of Jeffersonville, Kentucky.  

Other survivors include a sister, Mary Vice of Lexington, Kentucky; a half sister, Jean Stivings of Ohio; an uncle, Bob Howard of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. 

Dexter served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a retired farmer and member and deacon of the Macedonia Baptist Church. 

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2010, at the Macedonia Baptist Church with Brother Kevin Strausbaugh and William Rogers officiating.  Burial was in Machpelah Cemetery. 

Pallbearers:  Jimmy Jolly, Lonnie Anderson, Raymond Knox, Bruce Witt, Ben Howard, David Towles, Barkley Gibson, Anthony Thomas, Bill Platt, Billy Calvert, Sam Dunn, Jimmy Smith, Seldon Pelfrey, and Tommy Pritchard.

Jennifer Lynn Hilger/ 1949 – 2010 

HILLSBORO – Jennifer Lynn Hilger, of West Third Street, Maysville, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 4, 2010, at the U. K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.  

She was born November 17, 1949, in Hillsboro, KY, daughter of Louise McClain England of Maysville, KY, and the late David England.    One brother, Gary England, of Germantown, KY, preceded her in death. 

Survivors include one sister, Beth Klym of Pleasant Hill, California, two nephews, Michael Klym of Pleasant Hill, CA, and Clayton England of Germantown, KY; and five aunts, Carolyn Helphenstine, Billie Alderman, Doris Woodward, Elizabeth Jones, and Sarah Gerhard. 

Jenny was a nurse for many years and a member of the Broadway Christian Church in Lexington. 

Graveside services and interment will be held 1 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2010, at the Hillsboro Cemetery with Brother Gerald Saunders officiating.  There is no visitation. 

Pallbearers will be Clayton England, Rick Dugan, Ron Helphenstine, Sammy Lewis, Calvin Flora, Joey Oldfield, and Darrell Alderman. 

As Jenny loved all animals, contributions in her memory are suggested to a local humane society. 

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hutton Funeral Home, Hillsboro, Kentucky.

Mae Hensley Gabbard,

97, of Jackson, KY passed away Tues. Jan. 05, 2010 at her residence.  She was born July 13, 1912 and was the third of six children born to Goodlowe and Betty King Hensloey.  She lived at Kings Braanch until her parents died. She then graduated from Highland Boarding School and Bryan Stratton Business School in Louisville, KY.  She was a life time member of the Elkatawa Free Methodist Church and very involved in church activities until her healt started failing.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Ray Gabbard; One son: Ray David Gabbard; Two sisters:  Christina “Tenny” Hensley and Mary Gorley.  Three brothers:  Hager, Brack and Bill Hensley; Two grandchildren.  She is survived by two daughters:  Barbara Katherine Gabbard of Middletown, OH; Margaret Ann “Peggy” Gabbard of Jackson, KY; two sons: Frank L. (Wanda) Gabbard of Winchester, KY; Tommy Dean (Barbara) Gabbard of Jackson, KY.  10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  Funeral services were held on Fri. Jan. 08, 2010 at 1:00PM at Deaton Funeral HOme Chapel with Rev. Sam Faulkner officiating.  Burial in Jackson Cemetery, Jackson, KY.  Visitation 5:00PM Thurs. Deaton Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements.
