Activities planned for 2009 Breathitt County Veterans Week

Put out your flags!  Schools and businesses are encouraged to decorate for this event.  Also, be sure to excuse your student and employees to go out front and wave or salute our veterans as they go by on Nov. 10th at 11:00.  
 
Thursday, November 5th – 6:30 – Veterans Week Activities Radio Program to air on WJSN 97.3.  Members of the veterans week planning committee will discuss activities taking place during veterans week and the importance of honoring our veterans.  Doug Neace, talk show host.
 
Friday, November 6th – “Invite a Veteran to Lunch Day” and other special programs at local schools.
 
Sunday, November 8th – 5:30-8:00 – Program for all veterans at First Church of God on Highway 30W.  Reception with food to follow.
 
Monday, November 9th – “Invite a Veteran to Lunch Day” at Breathitt High School 11:30 – Noon.  Special programs at other local schools.
 
Monday, November 9th – 5:30-8:30 – Veterans Night at Breathitt County Senior Citizens Center .  Visit with other veterans and enjoy a fun time.  Refreshments provided by the Junior Red Cross and the Jackson Church of God Youth Group.
 
Tuesday, November 10th – 11:00 & 12:00 noon – Veterans Parade & Parade & Program.  Parade consisting of high school bands, fire-truck & National Guard vehicles; vintage cars to transport veterans.  Parade begins on Court Street; proceeds up Cherry, Broadway, College Avenue , Brown, and Main .  Route will end at Breathitt High School exit ramp.  Old cars will transport veterans to Douthitt Park for 12:00 Noon program consisting of musical presentations, Wreath of Remembrance, Recognition of Veterans, etc.  Keynote speaker will be Brigadier General John W. Heltzel, KyARNG.  
 
Tuesday, November 10th at 1:00 p.m. – Veterans Program at LBJ.  Students will pay special tribute to Veterans.  Activities include students singing and a special “Folding the Flag” presentation.
 
Wednesday, November 11th (Veterans Day) 10:30 – Noon – “Invite a Veteran to Lunch Day” at Jackson City School .
3:30 pm – Nursing home program.  Members of the Jackson Womans Club to visit and honor veteran residents at the Nim Henson Geriatric Center .
